Bush was wrong on funding ESCR

Weekly Standard Editor Bill Kristol and National Affairs Editor Yuval Levin briefly discuss the embryonic stem cell debate that occurred during the George W. Bush Administration. Mr. Levin points out that ethics often take a back seat to emotion in deciding serious issues such as Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

As you may recall, President Bush decided to fund research on lines of stem cells taken from embryos that were killed prior to his decision while withholding federal funding for killing additional human beings. Bush’s decision was pro-death. Either the research would fail (as it has so far) to find cures which would mean it was a waste of taxpayer money or it would succeed, leading to additional pressure to kill nascent human beings.
